Looking back on their lives, they are forced to confront themselves. Ever since A Doll's House was first published, it has raised debate and controversy, both because of its splendid dramatic structure and because of its broad ideological impact. Henrik Ibsen's works are performed on stages world-wide, read in numerous translations, studied and researched on every continent of the world. The notes, drafts and papers for Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House belong to the most copious and most interesting manuscript material from the hand of this great playwright.

I know nothing but what the clergyman said, when I went tobe confirmed. He told us that religion was this, and that, and theother. When I am away from all this, and am alone, I will look into thatmatter too. I will see if what the clergyman said is true, or at allevents if it is true for me. Before all else, you are a wife and mother. Helmer (sits down at the opposite side of the table).

[Sits down on the sofa.] Be nice now, Doctor Rank, and tomorrow youwill see how beautifully I shall dance, and you can imagine I am doing it allfor you—and for Torvald too, of course. [Takes various things out ofthe box.] Doctor Rank, come and sit down here, and I will show yousomething. HELMER.And I hear he is a good worker, too. But I knew him when we were boys. It wasone of those rash friendships that so often prove an incubus in afterlife. Imay as well tell you plainly, we were once on very intimate terms with oneanother.

He suffers from a diseased moral character, Mrs. Helmer; buteven he began talking of its being highly important that he should live. I used to—many years ago. At one time he was asolicitor's clerk in our town. Papa died just at that time. I had meant to lethim into the secret and beg him never to reveal it. But he was so illthen—alas, there never was any need to tell him.

A Summary and Analysis of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House

Indeed, I don't look down on any one. But it is truethat I am both proud and glad to think that I was privileged to make theend of my mother's life almost free from care. Mrs Linde (smiling). Small household cares andthat sort of thing!

My poor innocent spinehas to suffer for my father’s youthful amusements. NORA.[brings him in and shuts the door after him]. Oh, you know very well Ialways have time for you. NORA.And if my little ones had no other mother, I am sure you would—Whatnonsense I am talking!

You mustsimply listen to what I say. Torvald, this is a settling of accounts. HELMER.Give it to me. [Takes the letter, and shuts the door.] Yes, it is fromhim. You shall not have it; I will read it myself.

But it’s the mind of the protagonist that interests the playwright most. Nora is defined here by her convictions, and as portrayed by Cochran, she’s more public figure than private woman. There are no children or servants. This is probably attractive to producers, who don’t have to meet as much of a payroll.

But the loss of the children deprives the drama of some of its complexity as well as most of its remaining sentimentality. Gretchen Hall makes an impressive Globe debut as Nora, the pampered but secretly unhappy banker’s wife. Opening night jitters caused Hall some line troubles in the first act Thursday, but once she settled in, she found all the facets of her complex, multidimensional character. There are two kinds of moral laws, two kinds of conscience, one for men and one, quite different, for women. They don’t understand each other; but in practical life, woman is judged by masculine law, as though she weren’t a woman but a man.

The first known draft of the play is entitled "Notes on the Tragedy of the Present Age" (Rome, 19 October 1878). When published in 1879, the play revolutionised contemporary Western drama, both formally and thematically. In the draft material we are given direct access to the playwright's workshop. Here we can follow the development of Ibsen's artistic imagination and the sharpening of ideological content. In the manuscripts, Ibsen expresses his revolutionary ideas more directly and more easily accessible than in the finished work, which for artistic reasons is rendered more ambiguous.

Bergman Adaptation Restructures ‘A Doll’s House’

There can be no freedom or beauty about a home life thatdepends on borrowing and debt. We two have kept bravely on the straight road sofar, and we will go on the same way for the short time longer that there needbe any struggle. Torvald explains that, when a man has forgiven his wife, it makes him love her all the more since it reminds him that she is totally dependent on him, like a child. He preserves his peace of mind by thinking of the incident as a mere mistake that she made owing to her foolishness, one of her most endearing feminine traits. Dr. Rank then arrives.

A Doll’s House: Cast

No, no; only lean on me; I will advise you and direct you.I should not be a man if this womanly helplessness did not just give you adouble attractiveness in my eyes. You must not think anymore about the hardthings I said in my first moment of consternation, when I thought everythingwas going to overwhelm me. [Goes to the door andlistens.] No—it is no one. Of course, no one will come today,Christmas Day—nor tomorrow either. But, perhaps—[opens the doorand looks out]. No, nothing in the letterbox; it is quite empty.

[Takes her hands.]Now you look like your old self again; it was only the first moment—Youare a little paler, Christine, and perhaps a little thinner. Ibsen's German agent felt that the original ending would not play well in German theaters. In addition, copyright laws of the time would not preserve Ibsen's original work. Therefore, for it to be considered acceptable, and prevent the translator from altering his work, Ibsen was forced to write an alternative ending for the German premiere.

I ought to have foreseen it. Allyour father's want of principle—be silent! —all your father's want ofprinciple has come out in you. No religion, no morality, no sense ofduty—How I am punished for having winked at what he did!

—if only this obstinate little person can get her way! Do yousuppose I am going to make myself ridiculous before my whole staff, to letpeople think that I am a man to be swayed by all sorts of outside influence? Ishould very soon feel the consequences of it, I can tell you! And besides, there is one thing that makes it quite impossible for me to have Krogstad inthe Bank as long as I am manager. So you are going to be dressed up tomorrow Nora. I will tellyou what—I shall come in for a moment and see you in your fine feathers. But I have completely forgotten to thank you for a delightful eveningyesterday.

You must not think any more about the hard things I said in myfirst moment of consternation, when I thought everything was going tooverwhelm me. I have forgiven you, Nora; I swear to you I have forgivenyou. You too, of course; we are both saved, both saved, bothyou and I. Look, he sends you your bond back. He says he regrets andrepents—that a happy change in his life—never mind what he says! No one can do anything to you.

Act Three opens on the next day. Krogstad comes to meet Mrs. Linde at the Helmers’ house while they are at the ball. It is revealed that the two of them once loved each other but that their relationship ended when Mrs. Linde chose to marry a richer man because that was the only way to support her family. Mrs. Linde suggests that, now that their respective spouses have both died, she and Krogstad marry so that she can take care of his children and they can live a happier life together.

Few play characters world-wide can claim an equivalent importance as role model as Nora Helmer. It is from this perspective we view his contribution to theatrical history. His realistic contemporary drama was a continuation of the European tradition of tragic plays. In these works he portrays people from the middle class of his day. These are people whose routines are suddenly upset as they are confronted with a deep crisis in their lives. They have been blindly following a way of life leading to the troubles and are themselves responsible for the crisis.

ibsen doll house

Yes; odds and ends, needlework,[pg 16]crochet-work, embroidery, and that kind of thing. (Dropping hervoice.) And other things as well. You know Torvald left his officewhen we were married?

That wasthe saddest time I have known since our marriage. NORA.To have some fun at Christmas-time, of course. We will havesuch fun together! But take off your things. You are not cold, I hope.[Helps her.] Now we will sit down by the stove, and be cosy. No, takethis armchair; I will sit here in the rocking-chair.

"This is definitely the exact kind of house where you would dream," Gambino said in an interview with USA TODAY. New Orleans, mind you, is arguably without its best player in Zion Williamson, who suffered a hamstring strain in the play-in tournament. Relax in this professionally decorated beach house. Enough bathrooms lol amazing view. We enjoyed that it was close to town but still away from the crowd.

“Catherine’s really got the knack for capturing her children at their very best." To celebrate Charlotte's seventh birthday on May 2, 2022, she shared pictures of the youngster sat among bluebell flowers, and posing with a dog. Prince Alfred, the 14th child, died at 2 years old after a sickness brought on by the smallpox vaccine.

Queen Charlotte loved animals

Amelia was in poor health throughout her life, and when she was sent to the seaside to recover, Charles FitzRoy, an equerry, accompanied her. Before becoming King of Hanover, he served in the British Army, and in 1815, he married his first cousin, Duchess Frederica of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. His mother, Queen Charlotte, opposed their marriage, and never received her daughter-in-law. He and Frederica had one son, Prince George of Cumberland (born May 27, 1819)—later King George V of Hanover, the last King of Hanover. The second daughter and sixth child of George and Charlotte, Princess Augusta Sophia was born on November 8, 1768.

A Palace Full of Children and a Musical Bond

Charlotte was also an active gardener, with a scientific interest in botany that led her to help expand Kew Gardens. However, the implications of this lineage continue to tantalise royal commentators and creative writers alike. They were able to eventually reconcile and she continued to be an important and supportive member of the household when George became Prince Regent following the king’s final breakdown in 1810. Charlotte was also a keen botanist, mingling enthusiastically with many of the leading scientists of the day and showing a particular interest in the exotic collections at Kew Gardens. A South African flower was named Strelitzia reginae (‘of the queen’) in her honour and we also have Charlotte to thank for introducing Christmas trees to Britain. Music was one of them, and she had a considerable teacher in the form of Johann Christian Bach, son of the great composer Johann Sebastian Bach.

Dead, too, would be the wanted man, Terry Clark Hughes Jr., whose criminal history showed an escalation from a break-in to drug charges to firearms. It was the sort of progression that some communities have long lamented as an inescapable cycle of violence. According to Kensington Palace, Kate started a course of preventative chemotherapy in late February. Both Kate and William have taken time off from public duties this year due to Kate's health. Kate underwent abdominal surgery in January and then announced in March that she had been diagnosed with cancer.

King George age

Although Charlotte attempted to expand her social circle, Augusta challenged her every step of the way, even going as far as to replace Charlotte’s German ladies-in-waiting with English ladies of Augusta’s choosing. When Charlotte was seventeen years old, she was sent from Germany to marry George III, five years her senior. George had ascended to the throne following the death of his father, George II, and was as yet unmarried. Since he would soon need an heir of his own, and Charlotte was from a minor duchy in the northern part of Germany that had no political machinations, she must have seemed like a perfect match. Charlotte’s happy existence was shattered by George III’s mental illness, which began to have a marked effect on his temperament in 1788.

When did Prince George start school?

Two days after Charlotte's arrival, the palace revealed the princess’s full name. “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. The baby will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge,” a statement read.

The Prince’s second birthday picture was also released on July 21, the day before his birthday, but this time without an evening embargo. Kensington Palace, which by this time had become William and Kate’s new home, tweeted the picture by Mario Testino taken for Princess Charlotte’s christening just after 2 p.m. Here is a reminder of how all the previous birthday images of George, Charlotte and Louis were released. William and Kate have marked each of their children’s birthdays with a new picture often taken by Kate. The blogger spoke with the Princess of Wales and recalled her encounter on Instagram Stories, where she also shared footage of the royal meeting her son, also named George. When William and Kate embarked on a two-day trip to Northern Ireland in 2019, Belfast-based blogger Laura-Ann brought her son to Windsor Park stadium in hopes of catching a glimpse of the royal couple.

George was after a young, unambitious princess to become a low-key and dutiful consort, and Sophia Charlotte ticked the right boxes. A party of royal envoys was duly dispatched to Germany, where the princess signed a marriage contract before embarking on an incredibly arduous odyssey to her new kingdom. Queen Charlotte was an avid user of snuff before she arrived in England, and it was a habit that she continued throughout her life. Wanting to appease his new bride, King George was said to have tried a pinch on the second day of their marriage but couldn’t stop sneezing.

No one should expect to make money from the picks and predictions discussed on this website. According to show creator Shonda Rhimes, Violet Ledger is 12 years old in 1761. However, the actress who plays Violet, Connie Jenkins-Greig, is 19 years old, making her seven years older than her character. Queen Charlotte’s judgmental stare was not merely a creation of Rosheuvel’s imagination. The queen was, in fact, deeply involved with gossip around the “ton,” and the first known debutante ball was hosted in her honor.

In a country where gun ownership and gun violence are on the rise, the Marshals Service is on the front lines. Marshals agents arrest more people wanted on warrants than all other Justice Department agencies combined, according to a recent report by the U.S. They used the armored vehicle to rip the front of the house open so they could send a drone in, witnesses said.

how old was charlotte when she married george

Charlotte was a patron of the arts and an amateur botanist who helped expand Kew Gardens. She introduced the Christmas tree to Britain, decorating one for a Christmas party for children of Windsor in 1800. She was distressed by her husband's bouts of physical and mental illness, which became permanent in later life. She maintained a close relationship with Queen Marie Antoinette of France, and the French Revolution is likely to have enhanced the emotional strain felt by Charlotte.

Indeed, the first five of George’s birthday pictures were taken by professional photographers. He was born in 1738, making him 23 years old when his sister Charlotte got married to King George in 1761. Tunji Kasim, the actor behind the Adolphus character, is 36 years old in real life.

Some famous royal homes are all thanks to Charlotte and George, including Buckingham Palace. Though St James's Palace was the official residence of the royal couple, George purchased a nearby property, Buckingham House, which the couple moved into in 1762, making it Buckingham Palace, per The Royal Household website. When George III succeeded to the throne in 1760, he was only 22 years old and was not yet married. Princess Charlotte was chosen to marry him and moved from Germany to England. Two weeks after their wedding, their coronation ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey. King George and Queen Charlotte would be married for 57 years, and would have 15 children.

Queen Charlotte was born Sophia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, and she married King George III when she was 17 years old. She gave birth to her first child, Prince George Augustus Frederick, less than a year after she was married. Arsema Thomas (who plays Young Lady Danbury) is 28 years old, according to reports. There’s no confirmation of how old her character is, but we know that she is older than Queen Charlotte as she has already married and had children, and has sexual experience to impart as part of their friendship.

"Part of the reason why she's so angry is because she wants true love," Amarteifio tells T&C of her version of Charlotte. "It was our challenge to make every moment of joy and pleasure between these two people as vibrant as possible. Because everyone knows, and I think in a way those characters know as well, where everything is heading." Over a year after her death, King George III died from pneumonia on Jan. 29, 1820, at age 81. Due to his illness, it's likely that he was not aware of or capable of understanding Charlotte's death in his final years.

Treehouse TV also aired this show in reruns from 1999 to December 2005. The show revolves around Wimzie, a 5-year-old bird-dragon monster girl, who attends a daycare in her house run by her grandmother, a bird named Yaya, since her parents, Rousso (a dragon fireman) and Graziella (an airline pilot bird-like monster) work full-time. The other kids are Jonas (a nerdy goblin), Horace (a dimwitted troll), Bo (Wimzie’s little brother; a dragon like Rousso), and Loulou (Jonas’ hyperactive little sister). She also has a grandmother named Yaya (a bird-like monster like Graziella). Each show revolves around the kids facing a moral or social dilemma and learning how to deal with it. Journey back to the 1940s, where Los Angeles grappled with the pervasive impact of Jim Crow laws, casting a shadow that restricted people of color from esteemed venues.

“This lot was in pure view—every morning, every night,” Carlotta Stahl recalled. Locals called it Pecker Point, presumably because it was a prime makeout venue. For the Stahls, it became the blank screen on which they projected their dreams of a life together, a place to build a future, a family, and a house like no other. In 1945, these visionary women gathered 50 like-minded friends, carefully selected from a diverse array of influential black women.

About two months after their dash to Las Vegas, the Stahls decided to drive up to this mystery spot and have a look around. They found themselves gawping at the entirety of Los Angeles spread out below in a grid that went on for an eternity or two. In the kismet-filled conversation that followed, Buck agreed to buy the barren one-eighth-acre lot for $13,500, with $100 down and the seller maintaining the mortgage until the Stahls paid it off. On that site, they would construct Case Study House #22, designed by Pierre Koenig, arguably the most famous of all the houses in the famous Case Study program that Arts & Architecture magazine initiated in 1945. For generations of pilgrims, gawkers, architecture students, and midcentury-modern aficionados, it would be known simply as the Stahl House. The series was produced by Cinar (later Cookie Jar Entertainment, now part of WildBrain), with the PBS telecasts presented by Maryland Public Television from 1997 to 2001.

The show was about a 5 year old dragon-bird girl named Wimzie whose parents worked all day, so her grandma Yaya ran a mini daycare center. The charges of the daycare are Wimzie, her 18 month old brother Bo, a 5 year old goblin named Jonas who loves science, his 3 year old sister Loulou who loves to be with the bigger kids, and a 4 year old ogre named Horace who isn't very bright. What Buck and Carlotta Stahl got when they drove up to Woods Drive in 1954 was more than they ever envisioned. In March 1954, Clarence “Buck” Stahl and Carlotta May Gates drove from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and got married in a chapel. They each worked in aviation (Buck in sales, Carlotta as a receptionist), had previous marriages, and were strapping, tall, and extremely good looking—California Apollonians out of central casting. Back home in L.A., as the newlyweds pondered their future, they became preoccupied with a promontory of land jutting out like the prow of a ship from Woods Drive in the Hollywood Hills, about 125 feet above Sunset Boulevard. It was as conspicuous as it was forbidding, visible from the couple’s house on nearby Hillside Avenue.

In this challenging landscape, two extraordinary women, Fannie Williams, a visionary entrepreneur and esteemed community leader, and Della Williams, a philanthropist and wife of renowned architect Paul R. Wimzie is a little girl monster who lives with her parents (Rousso & Graziella), grandma (Yaya), and baby brother (Bo). The basic plot was that Wimzie's friends would always come over for the day and they would play together.

The next night, Kisha gets out of bed in the middle of the night, stands by the bed for several hours, and begins to dance. Malcolm wakes up and follows Kisha to the kitchen, where he catches her eating uncooked food and drinking old milk. On another night, Kisha urges Malcolm to investigate a noise, but it turns out to be Rosa, his Hispanic housekeeper. Rosa quits, and Malcolm and Kisha smoke marijuana with the ghost to relieve their pain. The next day, Malcolm's friend Steve and his girlfriend Jenny bring over a ouija board to communicate with the ghost. When it misspells ghost as "gost", they all laugh at it, and it throws the ouija board across the room, scaring Jenny and Steve out of the house.

A minute later, Malcolm wakes up telling everyone he survived and Kisha is behind him making him scream.

While Sheila is out of the room, Richard recounts how he was locked in a basement for three days as a child and tells that he has a paralyzing fear of the dark. Despite Chris' efforts, he is also knifed and Sheila is frantically chased around the mansion. Just as Richard is about to strike, the moon goes behind a cloud, bringing about his reversion to childhood and fear of the dark, thus saving Sheila as the police arrive. They have fun exploring the mansion, even holding a séance before separating one by one by candlelight on the moonlit night.

The next night, Malcolm notices the paranormal activity and tries to move out of the house and leave Kisha. Since he can't sell his house in the current market, they hire Chip, a psychic, to investigate; Chip immediately falls in love with Malcolm. Before Chip can leave, after finding nothing wrong, Kisha confesses to making a deal with the devil for a pair of shoes. Chip tells Kisha she is screwed and invites Malcolm to join his wrestling group. After Chip leaves, Kisha shows Malcolm a video of her eighth birthday, in which she began to experience paranormal activity by her imaginary friend, Tony.

Malcolm ends up wrestling the chicken all across the kitchen, ending with him throwing the chicken up into the ceiling fan where it is decapitated. The next night, Malcolm and Kisha have sex with the camera on for about three hours. In the middle of the night, Kisha wakes up and stands next to the bed for a few hours before walking out of the room and making a big crash and screaming Malcolm's name. Among other weird scenarios that plague the family is Becky opening her box and having a whole swarm of moths fly out. Malcolm fixes this by installing bug zappers to attract the moths to their doom. He also notices the demon, which Professor Wilde says is named Aghoul, taunting him in the videos.

Malcolm calls upon Doug to come by, but he has a mental breakdown along with the ghost possessing him and ends up shooting himself in the head. After some reluctance, he gets the demon to transfer itself to himself by having Becky regurgitate red goo. Everybody runs upstairs to find Malcolm possessed (who then gets beat up). The Swansons take the possessed items, including Abigail so Ned can have sex with her.

That night, the ghost drags Malcolm out of the room and has sex with Kisha. When Malcolm finds out, he calls his cousin Ray Ray, who immediately flees when he sees the ghost's powers. That same night, Kisha waits for the ghost until it gets late and leaves. The Haunting of Hill House received critical acclaim, particularly for its acting, directing, and production values. Landscape Lighting Ideas for Your Front and Backyard

Customize the illumination by adding multiple light strips according to your desired lighting intensity, and arrange a table and chairs beneath. This approach is currently the most accessible and straightforward lighting style to implement. Consider elevating the idea by adding potted plants on top of your gazebo for an enhanced effect. The plants will conceal the cables of the fairy lights, creating the illusion of floating lights. Opting for incandescent or halogen bulbs for outdoor use is discouraged. The glass construction of these bulbs makes them susceptible to breakage in adverse weather conditions.

The focal points might be unique features or functional parts of your home. For instance, you might want to highlight a unique water feature. Functional elements of your home include seating areas or the entrance to your house. Positioning the lights near the water outlet ensures maximum effectiveness, aiming to infuse color into the flowing water. When underwater lights disperse throughout the pool, it produces a captivating illusion of glowing water. To elevate your underwater lighting experience, we recommend incorporating addressable RGB lights.

Dimmable lights can be an incredibly wise and energy-efficient choice because you have complete control over the brightness of your outdoor lighting. As you know, most professional landscape projects incorporate some type of outdoor lighting into their plans. Property owners continue to realize the importance and value of landscape lighting as it relates to the overall beauty, safety and entertainment value of their outdoor environment. To reduce light pollution and emission of blue light, it’s best to aim for fixtures with a color temperature that falls somewhere beneath 3,000 Kelvins. Low-spectrum LED lights and warm, amber-colored bulbs tend to offer a lower color temperature, while bright LEDs can be higher on the Kelvin scale. Any compilation of outdoor lighting concepts would be complete by considering landscape lights.

Consider concepts like focal points, cohesion, and depth when designing your lighting plan. You can also use outdoor lighting ideas such as moonlighting, uplighting, silhouetting, and more to illuminate your home or outdoor living space. Opting for solar lamps in your outdoor lighting scheme is a wise choice, given their automatic activation at night.

Modern Outdoor Lighting Is The Perfect Addition To Your Home’s Exterior

Usually electroplated, it’s sold lacquered to prevent tarnish or unlacquered to patinate. Sculptural and statement-making, these globes work well on the commanding facade of an urban rowhouse or a double-height porch. Fixtures with angular profiles and ogee edges are a good fit for a bungalow and other clean-lined early-20th-century styles. Warranties range from 30 days to a lifetime for some lights made from solid copper. Installing a dedicated junction box for a new fixture takes more skill—and tools. Experiencing the enchantment of pathway bollard lights guiding your way after dark feels like a scene from a fairytale. Adequate outdoor lighting illuminates your residence and imparts a distinctive and individualized appearance. Modern lighting solutions seamlessly blend functionality with style, offering many options for areas such as your patio, outdoor pool, and garden. You should avoid large unlit areas around your home, as your eyes naturally overlook the space. Dark sky compliance means that an outdoor light fixture has a Fixture Seal of Approval from the International Dark Sky Association (IDA). The ideal outdoor light fixture will carry this seal, not pollute the night sky, reduce light trespass, and minimize glare. Outdoor step lights fulfill a dual role by addressing safety considerations and enhancing the aesthetic appeal. Inadequately lit staircases pose a risk of slips and injuries, making lighting solutions in this context not only visually pleasing but also essential for practical safety measures.

CAST Classic Tree Lights

If you wish to use a rigid metal conduit, a depth of 6 inches will suffice. You can also create a special mounting base for your outdoor wiring. This hides all your wires neatly in a metal or plastic mounting base. Our CAST Classic Small China Hat Area Path Light has a dome. You can also use directional path lights like the CAST Classic MR-16 Path Light, which has an adjustable shroud facing down.

Enhance the aesthetics of your home’s pathway by adorning it with compact outdoor solar lamps strategically positioned near the ground. To complement these lighting concepts, two crucial elements require attention. As a general rule, the bottom of the light should be 66 inches above the porch floor, or roughly just above eye level. If your front porch has especially tall ceilings, you can go up as high as 72 inches. An elaborate, elegant entrance will benefit from lantern-style sconces. Hinged glass doors and candle-covered sockets lend an air of authenticity.

You can use our CAST Classic Tree Light to create this effect. The next important concept to get to grips with is depth. The front of your home is a three-dimensional environment. You need to place your lighting elements in positions that make the most of your space. You can use high, medium, or low-wattage lights with different spreads to help you make the most of the area. Illuminate a fountain by incorporating colored or RGB LED lights, similar to underwater lighting.

While all path lights serve an important function, different styles can better suit the various paths and walkways around your home. Choose a type of path light that offers enough brightness for the amount of traffic the pathway gets and also coordinates with the rest of your landscaping. Light fixtures sold in the U.S. should carry an Underwriters Laboratories (UL) rating on the label that indicates what kind of location they can be used in.

Finally, grazing involves using an acutely-angled light against the wall. Most grazing lights are set one foot from the wall, with the fixture tilted some distance from the wall to reduce hot spots. Grazing is especially effective with irregular surfaces such as river stones as it produces interesting shadow patterns. Silhouetting involves casting an even light on an exterior wall from a wide angle.
